Introduction to MT5 Interface
The following screen shot below displays the main MetaTrader 5 interface. As a beginner trader trying to learn how to execute stock orders in the online stock market, the main tool for trading the stock trading market is the MT5 platform software. This MT5 platform is the software which you'll connect to your online broker with & execute trade positions & monitor your MT5 account balance from this MT5 platform.
The MT5 Platform software is provided for free through the various different broker websites. This MT5 platform looks like the stock illustration explained below:

1. Navigation Menus
The MT5 navigation menus are:
- File Menu
- View Menu
- Insert Menu
- Charts Menu
- Tools Menu
- Window Menu
- Help Menu
These are the main MT5 navigation menus which can be used to navigate MetaTrader 5 platform. As a beginner trader you as a trader can begin & start by clicking any of these MT5 navigation menus to accustom yourself with the various MT5 button keys which are arranged as MT5 sub-menus within these MetaTrader 5 navigation menus.
These MetaTrader 5 navigation menus will be explained & covered & discussed/explained in details in the next MT5 tutorial guides about navigating menus.
2. Tool-bars
The MT5 tool bars are used to manipulate MT5 charts, either by placing MetaTrader 5 indicators, MT5 line studies, change MT5 chart time frames & load MetaTrader 5 chart template from a list of saved MT5 chart templates.
These MetaTrader 5 tool bars will be discussed on other MT5 guides that will explain each MT5 button on this MT5 toolbar & how to add & customize these MT5 toolbars.
3. Chart Window
This MT5 chart window is the main area where MT5 charts are portrayed and a indices trader can analyze the trend direction of a MetaTrader 5 chart whether upward or downward, place MetaTrader 5 chart indicators for stock trading analysis & even place and open trade orders from these MT5 charts.
4. Navigator
MetaTrader 5 Navigator will contain data about MT5 accounts, whether practice demo or real, this MT5 panel window will also have a list of all the MetaTrader 5 indicators and also MetaTrader 5 Automated Expert Advisors/EAs and scripts.
One can choose and select which MT5 account to sign in by expanding the Accounts menu, select and choose a MT5 technical indicator by expanding the MetaTrader 5 indicator menu or select and choose an MT5 Automated EA Expert Advisor(EA) by expanding the Automated EA Expert Advisor(EA) menu.
5. Market-Watch
MT5 MarketWatch is used to display realtime stock quotes for MT5 instruments. This can list as many quotes offered by your MT5 broker or few chosen by a trader. To save internet band width, right click inside the MetaTrader 5 marketwatch window and select and choose 'Hide All', in order to hide the MT4 symbols that you're not transacting on this MT5 Platform and save on internet bandwidth.
6. Terminal
This is the MetaTrader 5 window that is like the bank MT5 account trade area for your MT5 trades, on this MT5 window you as a trader can view your MT5 account balance, profit and losses statement, equity, margin used and also retrieve a copy of all your MT5 trades history.
This MT5 window will also list all open trades and calculate all the profit and loss on realtime as a charts move upward/downward.
7. Connectivity Bar
MT5 connection bars - Red bars are for no connection, green bars show that there's connection to the servers & MetaTrader 5 trading orders can be opened. These MT5 connection status bars should always be green color when one is signed in to their MT5 demo MetaTrader 5 account or MT5 real/live account.

Why Platform is Required for Opening indices trading Trade Positions with Brokers
Platform is software that's used to access the stock market & interpret and analyze these stock price movements using stock charts & stock technical analysis tools. There are various different grounds why a trader requires to use a good platform. A good xauusd software can determine if a as a indices trader you earn profit or not.
So why does a indices trader need a good Platform Software:
To connect to the Online Broker Server:
To place an order one needs to use a software that will connect to the trading servers of their stock broker and this will allow them to open and close-out trade orders. Good softwares will connect with ease to the online brokers' servers & allow stock traders to place and open stock orders at any time from their desktop computer.
To analyze & interpret charts using stock trading analysis tools
To open a buy or sell order a trader needs to first analyze the direction of indices using stock charts. This is why all good trading softwares provide stock trade tools such as stock price charts, technical indicators and various different chart timeframes from which one-can analyze stock price movements using the stock chart time frames of their choice.
