The MT5 Strategy Tester in the MT5 platform is the environment used to back test the profitability of an MT5 Automated Expert Advisor which is an Automated Trading Program and determine profitability of this Grid Expert Advisor automated strategy & then Optimize this Grid Expert Advisor to a point where it is giving good profits from its automated activities.

Note: Before beginning the MT5 Strategy Tester shown below, you must first attach a trading Automated EA on a MT5 chart, by going to the Navigator Window, choosing the Grid Expert Advisor and then right click on it & specify the option 'Attach to Chart', once the Grid EA is attached to the MT5 chart it will then appear as it's shown below, Then Right Click on the Automated Expert Advisor, select properties setting and then select option by Checking/Ticking 'Allow Live Trading' and then continue with the MT5 strategy tester illustrated and shown below.

The MetaTrader 5 strategies tester option can be activated from the view menu & it's the second last menu item on View Menu, A short-cut is to Press Ctrl+R MetaTrader 5 buttons on your key-board.

The MT5 Strategy Tester contains the following Settings Parameters for setting up prior to testing an Automated EA automated stock system & also for optimizing the profitability of this Grid trading EA.

Automated Expert Advisor: Parameter for choosing which indices Grid trading EA you want to test among those installed on your MT5 platform.

Symbol: The instrument for which you as a trader want to test the stock trading Automated Expert Advisor on

Model: Whether to execute based on tick method, open prices or control points

Use Date: Set the date to begin the testing & the date to end the testing of the trading Automated EA

Visual Mode: Choose To view the illustration of where this Grid trading EA opens & closes trade as testing goes on, there's also a slide bar to increase or decrease the speed for this visual mode.

Period: Chart Time Frame for which to use examples 1 Hour Chart

Optimization: Allow Optimization Settings for your Automated EA Automated Robot

For example to test the above stock indices Automated EA on the indices for profitability, settings can be setup as displayed and shown above and MetaTrader strategy tester is then run, by pressing and clicking on 'Start Button Key'.

Following trade results are generated & an automated trader can choose to optimize the Grid trading EA further by changing the Automated Expert Advisors trading settings.

Once the optimization of the stock trading Automated Expert Advisor is complete the progress bar will show progress, the above status bar highlights the progress that the Grid Expert Advisor testing is complete.

Before running this Grid Strategy Method - Intraday Grid Strategy for Automated Expert Advisor testing you must go to navigator panel, double-click on this Grid trading EA to attach it to the chart and set the parameters as displayed and illustrated and shown below by ticking the options provided below:

After setting the above settings then you can test your automated strategy within MetaTrader 5 strategy-tester.
